Gavin Hamer, PT, MT Director of Physical Therapy Gavin has extensive experience in the out patient orthopedic physical therapy setting. He owned his own private practices for 15 years in New Zealand and Canada; The Sports and Spinal Injury Clinic and the Back and Sports Institute where he treated the full range of orthopedic conditions from elite athletes to weekend warriors.
While in New Zealand, Gavin graduated from the International Federation of Manipulative Therapist post graduate program, and was awarded the Diploma of Manipulative Therapy. Gavin and his family came to the United States in 1993 where he worked managing a number of outpatient satellites and a large sports medicine clinic in Ohio. In 1995 he moved to Michigan where he continues to teach nationally post-graduate physical therapy courses on the manual therapy management of the peripheral joints, common orthopedic conditions of the elderly, neck and back care. His book "The Lumber Spine and Pelvis: A Syndrome Based Diagnosis and Treatment Approach Utilizing Manual Therapy" was published in 2006.
Gavin now brings his expertise to the OIM. He believes the hands on approach used in clinic and backed up with exercise is the most effective means of returning the patient to full function. He feels the close liaison with the doctors allows for greater care and success in the patient outcome.
